Harry T Smith Jr. was born on October 2, 1935 in rural Crofton, Nebraska to Harry and Leona (Merchen) Smith Sr. He was the youngest of six children and graduated from Crofton High School. Harry also attended Yankton College. He served in the U.S. Army for two years. Harry married Joy Lukens and to them three children were born Eric, Craig, and Becky. He farmed and also was a truck driver. In 1995 he suffered a stroke from which doctors said he would probably never walk again. Surprising them, he did walk again. After he and Joy divorced in 2000, he retired to Bloomfield. He enjoyed gardening, going to auctions, and spending time with his children and grandchildren. The last year and a half of his life he spent in the good care of the Grand Island Veterans Home in Grand Island, NE.
Harry is survived by his three children and their spouses, son Eric and Ruth Smith of Wayne, (their daughters Greta Smith & Diana Smith of Wayne, NE, and Holly Wamstad of Laurel), son Craig and Colette Smith of Louisville, CO, (their children Ryan Howatt of CA, Renee' Howatt and Kiah Springer of Colorado), daughter Becky and Doug Wedekind of Lindsay, NE, (their children Rachel, Ethan, Caleb, Jonathan, and Josiah); two sisters Cleo Morman of Crofton, and Verlyn Nohr of Crofton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Raymond Smith; two sisters Leora Schuett, and Cecil Smith
