Gene Scott age 71 of Creighton, Nebraska died on Saturday, March 21, 2015 at his residence.

Graveside services will be on Wednesday, March 25, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at the Ponca Valley Cemetery in Verdel, Nebraska with Kerry Fernau presiding. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington.

Pallbearers will be Tim Moss, Tom Moss, Mike Moss, Chuck Scott, Jamie Brewer, and Thomas Bitsos.

Gene Scott was born on December 12, 1943 in Verdel, Nebraska to Charles Harvey and Alta Mae (Mills) Scott. He grew up in Verdel and worked on a farm. He married Sally J. Brewer on December 20, 1967. He and his wife Sally owned and operated the Vittles Inn Café in Creighton for several years. Gene then did construction as a cement worker.

Gene was an outdoor enthusiast and loved to hunt, fish, and trap. He enjoyed playing Euchre in Niobrara and spending time with his puppy Lacey. Gene was a caregiver for his wife for 10 years prior to her death on April 3, 2008 at the age of 65 years.

Gene is survived by his five children and their spouses Tim and Deb Moss of Harlan, IA, Tom Moss of Springfield, OR, Mike and Julie Moss of Creighton, NE, Chuck and Jodi Scott of Creighton, NE, Tracey and Thomas Bitsos of Yankton, SD; 16 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; 2 brothers Earl Scott of Minatare, NE, Lyle and Myva Scott of Bloomfield, NE; one sister Karen and husband Kerry Fernau of Ainsworth, NE.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Sally, sister-in-law Loretta Scott; five brothers Floyd, Wayne, Lloyd, Harvey, and Marvin Scott; three sisters Fern Wasserberger, Violet Ebsen, and Rose Martin.
