Robert "Bob" Leon Schumacher age 79 of Hartington, Nebraska died on Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at his residence after a battle with cancer this past year.
Funeral services will be on Saturday, September 3, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hartington with the Rev. Amanda Talley officiating. Burial will be at the Hartington City Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday, from 4-8:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at the Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington. Visitation will continue on Saturday, at church, one hour prior to services.
Bob was born in Osmond, NE on April 17th, 1937, the son of Robert Sr. and Leona (Buchholz) Schumacher. He was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Osmond on May 9, 1937. He was confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Plainview, NE on March 21, 1951. He graduated from Plainview High School in 1954. In his early years after graduation he worked at a concrete plant and at Ebinger Hardware in Plainview. He joined the Army National Guard in 1954 and was honorably discharged as a Platoon Sergeant on May 23, 1963.
On August 25, 1959, Bob and Wanda Norris were united in marriage at Stark Valley Methodist Church south of Plainview. To this union three children were born, Beth, Michael and Rhonda.
Bob began working for Kansas-Nebraska Natural Gas Company on February 29, 1960 in Plainview then moving to Atkinson, NE for 3 1/2 years. He was transferred to Hartington in 1970 where he spent 25 years as District Manager for KN Energy before retiring on April 17, 1995.
In his retirement, Bob enjoyed fishing, hunting and golfing. He also enjoyed driving vehicles for Pearson Motor, gardening and baking cakes for all the grandchildren on their birthdays and making his family famous peanut brittle during Christmas. His passion was for his family, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed attending their school and sporting events and taking them fishing, golfing and hunting.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hartington.
Bob is survived by his spouse of 57 years, Wanda of Hartington; 3 children, Beth (Joe) Wisnieski of Dodge, NE; Michael (Cindy) Schumacher of Holdrege, NE; Rhonda (Jody) Jensen of Morse Bluff, NE; 8 grandchildren, Ross Schumacher of Grand Island, NE; Joe Wisnieski of Clarkson, NE; Aimee (Aaron) Brown of Bar Nunn, WY; Megan Jensen of Fremont, NE; Shelby Kuehn of Hadar, NE; Morgan Wisnieski of Little Rock, AR; Kelsey Jensen of David City, NE; Benjamin Kuehn of Wayne, NE; 2 great-grandchildren Leighton and Ryker Brown; A sister, Eileen (Marvin) Vrooman of Tekamah, NE; brother-in-law, Ross Steele of Norfolk, NE, Steve Norris of Plainview, NE, Donald (Teresa) Norris of Henderson, NE, ; sisters-in-law, Shirley Schumacher of Blue Springs, MO; Norma Schumacher of Red Oak, IA; Shirley Schumacher of Columbus, NE, Anita (Darrell) Krei, Ankeny, IA, Rosena Norris, Plainview, NE; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 grandsons, Josten and Robby Schumacher, 4 brothers, Rodger, Allen, Melvin and Larry Schumacher, 1 sister, Norma Steele, and brothers-in-law, Roger Norris and Willis Anderson.

So sorry for your loss. Uncle Bob was one of my favorite people to fish with growing up. He will be missed for sure.

I so enjoyed Bob and Wanda when I lived in Hartington and it was always pleasing to see him at the golf course or in church or anywhere when I visit Hartington. Bob was always a very kind gentleman and I am sure you all cherish many wonderful memories.
