Phyllis I. Schulte, age 76, of Yankton, South Dakota and formerly of Wynot, Nebraska, died Wednesday, April, 22, 2015 at Avera Sister James Care Center in Yankton.
A gathering of friends and family will be from 1:00 to 3:00 PM on Saturday, April 25, 2015 at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton. Phyllis's cremated remains will be placed in the cemetery at a later date.
Phyllis Schulte was born October 30, 1938, to Alvin and Josephine (Hoesing) Eckhardt. She grew up in Wynot, Nebraska and graduated from Wynot High School in 1956. After her graduation, she began teaching country school near St. Helena, Nebraska for three years. She married Martin Schulte on September 7, 1959 at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. Phyllis became a homemaker and lived in many different places during Martin's career in the Army. She lived in Leavenworth, Kansas; Germany; Iowa; Fort Lawton in Seattle, Washington; Bangkok, Thailand; San Francisco, California; and Omaha, Nebraska when Martin retired in 1977. They then moved back to Wynot in 1985 and Phyllis began helping as a teacher's aide in the school. Their last move was to Yankton, South Dakota in 2014.
Phyllis loved gardening, traveling south for the winters with their camper, but she especially loved children and being around children.
Survivors include her husband,, Martin of Yankton; two children: JoAnne (Dan) Hayes of Milan, Illinois and Richard (Patty) Schulte of Omaha, Nebraska; six grandchildren: Douglas, Erin and Rosie Hayes and Julianna, Christina, and Rachael Schulte; three brothers: Paul Eckhardt of Coleridge, Nebraska; Charles (Joyce) Eckhardt of Crofton, Nebraska and Chris Eckhardt of Crofton; sister, JoNell (Jerry) Bockman of Boone, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Joseph L. Schulte; and brother, Dan Eckhardt.

Sorry to hear of the lose of your dear wife, dear mother. Phyllis was my teacher at Sunnyside School in Saint Helena,NE May she rest in peace. What a great person,teacher she was. Once again I send my sincere sympathy
