Loretta Marie Schulte, age 94 of Bow Valley, Nebraska, died on Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at the Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton, SD.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, January 23, 2016 at 10:30 am at the Holy Family (Sts. Peter & Paul) Catholic Church in Bow Valley with Rev. Eric Olsen officiating. Burial will be in the Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery in Bow Valley. Visitation will be on Friday from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm with a Vigil Service at 7:00 pm at the church. Visitation on Saturday will begin at 9:30 am at the church. The Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington is in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers will be Aaron Ankeny, Audi Campbell, Jay Weatherill, Austin Kathol, Sarah Arens and Amy Kutilek.
Loretta was born on November 4, 1921 in rural Menominee, Nebraska to John Henry and Maxalinda (Suing) Jansen. She grew up in the Menominee area and attended elementary school and then received her GED after her children were raised. Loretta took a writing class and became very eloquent when writing about family events. She married Claudius H. Schulte on October 24, 1944 in Menominee. They farmed in the Bow Valley area and Loretta moved into Bow Valley in 2010 after Claudius died. She moved to the Park View Haven Nursing Home in Coleridge, Nebraska in June 2015.
Loretta was a member of the Holy Family (Sts. Peter & Paul) Catholic Church, Christian Mothers, Bible Study Group and Rosary Club. She was a former 4H leader and enjoyed gardening, tending to her flowers and was an accomplished seamstress and quilter. Loretta dedicated her life to raising and caring for her family.
Loretta is survived by 6 children, Dennis (Ruth) Schulte of Lincoln, NE; Linda (Al) Crane of Madison, SD; Leane (Sylvan) Thoene of Bow Valley, NE; Claudette (Kevin) Ankeny of Yankton, SD; Don (Laurie) Schulte of Bow Valley and Laurie (Alvin) Kathol of Bow Valley; 21 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; a brother, Clarence (Angela) Jansen of Fordyce, NE; 3 sisters, Clara Rolfes of Wynot, NE, Rita Sudbeck of Bow Valley, Lorraine (Leo) Schulte of Hartington, NE; a sister-in-law, Mary Ann Jansen of Crofton, NE and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by husband, Claudius on September 28, 2010 at the age of 90; a daughter, Karen Ann Schulte, in 1971 at the age of 20; a son-in-law, Bruce Weatherill,; 4 brothers, George, Martin (Alice), Elmer (Rosemary) and Leonard (Mary) Jansen; a sister, Angela (Francis) Leise; 2 brothers-in-law, Al Rolfes and Marvin Sudbeck.
