LeRoy "Roy" Schindel, age 92 of Yankton, South Dakota died Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at Avera Yankton Care Center in Yankton.
Funeral services will be 10:30 AM on Friday, October 3, 2014 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Yankton with Reverend David Wildermuth officiating. Burial will be in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Yankton. Visitation is one hour prior to the funeral at the church on Friday. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Yankton.
Pallbearers are James Schindel, Marlin Milton, Raymond Kissinger, Bill Schindel, Mark Rausch, and Steve Stuen. Honorary pallbearers are Roy's nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
Roy Schindel was born August 9, 1922, on the farm in rural Hinton, Iowa to Ralph and Alvina (Hahn) Schindel. He grew up on the farm and graduated from Hinton High School. He married Ann Stuen on November 25, 1944. After their marriage Roy began working as the head custodian at Toy National Bank in Sioux City, Iowa, which he continued until his retirement.
Roy was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and volunteered as an usher for many years. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed taking care of his cars, and cooking. He was a devoted husband to Ann and loved his godchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Ann of Yankton; two brothers, Clarence (Mary Jane) Schindel of Hinton, Iowa and Lesslie (Janice) Schindel of Hinton; sister, Deloris Milton of Hinton; and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Vince Milton.
