Lloyd was born on October 1, 1923 at Hartington to Neils K. and Elvine (Dybdal) Pedersen. He grew up on a farm near Hartington and attended a country school through the 8th grade at which time he went to help his dad on the farm. He worked as a farm hand for many years until he began a job at Swifts Packing House in Sioux City, Iowa in 1943. That same year he met Inez C. Gunderson. They dated and were married on August 27, 1944 in Hartington. Lloyd worked for Elmer Hintz as a farm hand and for Otto Swartz and Dick Putter as a carpenter before beginning work for Hans J. Sorensen and Son at the John Deere Dealership on December 1, 1945. The dealership changed hands to Burt McFarland and then to Gerry Miller but Lloyd kept this job for 40 years working as a mechanic, parts manager, truck driver, set up man and service manager. He retired in 1986. Over the years Lloyd ran a saw sharpening and lawn mower repair service. He mowed the Hartington City Cemetery for 20 years and was summoned by many area farmers to work on their older farm equipment since he was the only person in the area with that skill and knowledge.
Lloyd was a longtime member of the Trinity Lutheran Church and served on the church council as well as the church custodian. He was a former volunteer fireman, was a member of the Odd Fellows and volunteered to play his accordion at the nursing home and other functions. Lloyd enjoyed attending auction sales, dancing, playing his accordion and collecting toy tractors. He also enjoyed coffee and fellowship with his friends and loved spending time with his family.
Lloyd is survived by 3 children and their spouses, Dennis and Cyndee Pedersen of Sacramento, CA; Lois and Don Bottolfsen of Yankton, SD; Bev and Scot Lund of Hutchinson, KS; a daughter-in-law, Ann Pedersen of Sioux City, Iowa; 8 grandchildren and their spouses, Cara and Troy Kern, Minda and Tate Hamann, Jana and David Hesker, Nick and Jenna Bottolfsen, Scott and Katy Bottolfsen, Ann and Fletcher Sheridan, Kiley and Adam Willis, Lauren and David Krehbiel, 10 great grandchildren, 2 brothers, Gerald and Lorraine Pedersen and Marvin and Gladys Pedersen both of Hartington; a sister, Doris Bell of Scottsdale, AZ.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Inez on March 30, 2008 at the age of 86, his oldest son, Darrell Pedersen on September 7, 2011 and 2 brothers, Gunnar and Richard Pedersen.
