Gary Leo Pautler, 64, of Crofton, Nebraska, died Monday, January 4, 2016, at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton, South Dakota.
Funeral Service will be on Thursday, January 7, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Crofton with the Rev. Michael Schmitz officiating. Burial of his cremated remains will be at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery in Crofton. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 6-8:00 p.m. with a Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. at the Wintz Funeral Home in Crofton. Military Rites will be by the Crofton American Legion Post 128 and the Legion Riders. The family will receive friends on Thursday one hour prior to services and at the luncheon.
Honorary pallbearers will be Don Steffen, Arlan Stratman, Dave Bohlken, Glenn Kathol, Monte Goeden, Dan Kramer, and Clayton Bruening.
Gary grew up on a farm west of Hartington and attended Holy Trinity Grade School and graduated from Cedar Catholic High School in 1969. He served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam from 1970-1971 as a combat infantryman. After he was honorably discharged he returned and worked for Schrempp Masonry for a short time. He then began working for Charlie Reifert at Reifert Furniture in Hartington from 1972 until 1979. Gary moved to Crofton and owned and operated Pautler Floor & More until 2003. He began working for Floor to Ceiling in Yankton in 2004 and continued until her retired in 2012.
Gary was proud of the fact that he was sober for 32 years and for being instrumental in helping others reach sobriety. He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Crofton American Legion Post #128, Hartington VFW Post 5283, and was a former Crofton Chamber of Commerce President. Gary loved fishing, golfing, gardening and flowers.
Gary is survived by his wife, Sue of Crofton; 4 children and spouses, daughter Tracy and Ivan Hofker of Louisville; sons Cory Pautler & Molly Haas of Crofton, Curt and Tessa Pautler of Crofton, Christopher and Sarah Pautler of Lee's Summit, MO; seven grandchildren Lily and Max Hofker, Amy Tramp, Sierra Riechen, Ava Pautler, Sophie & Logan Haas; four sisters and spouses Diane Linster of Valentine, Doris Pautler & Wally Ulrich of Hartington, Kathy and Roger Jones of Bow Valley, Coleen and Kelly Suing of St. Helena, NE.
He was preceded in death by his parents Herbert and Valerine Pautler; brother-in-law Harold Linster.

Words can not express how deep our sympathy extends to you. Through the years we have watched you laugh, cry, and grow closer as a family. Thank you for allowing us to share the love and friendship of such a wonderful man.
