Joan A. Olsen, age 78 of Hartington, Nebraska died peacefully on Tuesday, June 16, 2015 at Park View Haven Nursing Home in Coleridge, NE with her daughters at her side.
Memorial Services will be on Friday, June 19, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hartington with the Rev. Amanda Jertson officiating. Burial of her cremated remains will be at the Paragon Cemetery in rural Hartington. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6-7:00 p.m. at the Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Friday one hour prior to services at church.
Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren Jacob Rane Lovell and Kendall Nicole Lovell.
Joan Arlene Olsen was born on July 27, 1936 in Fordyce, Nebraska to Herman and Eva (Neuhalfen) Korff. She grew up in the Hartington area, was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church and graduated from Hartington Public High School. She also graduated from Wayne State College in 1975 with her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education. Joan taught in County schools for many years and also taught several years in Maskell and Wynot. She then taught for 20 years at Hartington Public School during the mid-1970's to mid-1990's.
Joan was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church and its woman's circle. She was a member of the Hartington Public School Education Foundation. Joan loved being on the farm and enjoyed watching the birds and the animals that surrounded her. She was especially fond of her grandchildren, and liked to garden, read, solve puzzles, and care for her pets.
Joan is survived by her two daughters and their spouses, Suzanne and Brian Lane of Renton, WA, Vicky and Todd Lovell of Fairbanks, Alaska; two grandchildren Jacob and Kendall Lovell; three siblings Beulah and husband George Ellestad of Pearl River, NY, Irene Foulk of Hartington, Raymond and wife Barb Korff of LeMars.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Frank on 9/1/2007 at the age of 74 years; son Steven on 8/23/2011 at age 42 years; brothers Walter and Les Korff; sisters Helen Bell, Edna Auch, and Erma Korff.
