Betty Nissen, age 87 of Hartington, Nebraska died on Thursday, February 02, 2017 at Park View Haven Nursing Home in Coleridge, NE.

Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family (Sts. Peter & Paul) Catholic Church in Bow Valley with the Rev. Eric Olson officiating. Burial will be at Sts. Peter & Paul cemetery in Bow Valley. Visitation will be on Friday, at church, from 5-7:00 p.m. with a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Saturday, at church, one hour prior to services. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington.

Pallbearers will be her seven children, Maret Rempp, Bill Nissen, Michael Nissen, Michelle Rogers, David Nissen, Mark Nissen, and Tim Nissen.

Elizabeth (Betty) Nissen was born on September 26, 1929 in Bow Valley, NE to Alphonse H. and Margaret (Burbach) Wortmann. She attended St. Peter & Paul Catholic School thru the eighth grade and then graduated from Mount Marty High School in 1947. Before her marriage she worked at Hegert's Hardware Store and at Lonnan Lumber Company in Hartington. Betty married Victor Nissen on April 20, 1954 in Bow Valley. She and Victor lived in the Dixon area for two years and then moved to a farm south of Bow Valley in 1956.

Betty belonged to the Christian Mothers, Holy Family Catholic Church, a rosary club, and a neighborhood card club.

Betty is survived by her husband Victor of 62 years; seven children and their spouses, Maret and Wayne Rempp of Yankton, SD, Bill and Heidi Nissen of Riverton, Utah, Michael and Lisa Nissen of Wausa, NE, Michelle and Shelby Rogers of Draper, UT, David Nissen of Bow Valley, Mark Nissen of Bennet, NE, and Tim Nissen of Bow Valley, NE; nine grandchildren Randall Rempp, Laurie Vazquez, Shae & Zoe Nissen, Darren, Paige & Jonathan Nissen, Brittney & Brooke Rogers; three great grandchildren Arden & Reese Rempp, Ethan Vazquez; three sisters Ruth and Gerald Foxhoven of Crofton, Gloria and Church McDonald of Boise, ID, Ethel Wortmann of St. Paul, MN; brother Roman Wortmann of Hartington.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, infant daughter Peggy; grandson Bradley Nissen; sister Rita Steffen and her husband Andrew Steffen; sister-in-law Wilma Wortmann.
