John C. Mitchell Sr., age 77, died on March 7, 2016 at his home in Chicago, Illinois.

Inurnment will be on Saturday, July 30, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Lawn Ridge Cemetery in Coleridge, NE. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home in Coleridge, NE.

John Charles Mitchell, Sr. was born May 17, 1938 in Chicago, IL to Charles and Belligot Mitchell. He graduated from Amundsen High School in 1955. He married Sue Hansen on December 13, 1962 and stayed in Chicago where they spent their life together. John joined the National Guard as an engineer for 4 years. He worked for Jays Potatoes chips for 10 years followed by Frito Lay for 30 years.

After Sue's passing in 2004, he retired and waited the day to be with the love of his life. John enjoyed being a parishioner at Martin Luther Church, an avid Gardner, took pride in his peach tree, traveled and loved to play cribbage. John loved the Hansen family so much and visited Coleridge frequently with his family, going to the dam, taking the ferry down the Missouri, the Sue dinosaur excavation, town anniversary, graduations, Indian reservations, church, etc.. and being with family.

In his final years, he enjoyed being with his family, old friends and his special friends Don & Bev, along with meeting up with his new Friends at Ernie's Tap.

John is survived by his children Pauline (Russ) Altergott, Pamela Fejda, Patricia Fiorentino, Peggy (Tom) Geslicki, and John Jr. (Jennifer). Dearest grandfather of 17 and great grandfather of 3; many nieces and nephews and friends; Loving In-laws - Mike and Donna Hansen of Coleridge, NE.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife and best friend Sue Nee Hansen; Parents Charles and Belligot Mitchell, sister Estelle; loving In-laws Arnold and Kate Hansen, Roger Hansen, Shirley & Joe (Flynn) and Sally Johnson, who he so dearly loved along with all of the many nieces, nephews.
