Michael "Mike" Lee McHenry, age 54, of Yankton, South Dakota died Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at his residence.

Funeral services will be 10:30 AM on Monday, April 28, 2014, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Yankton, South Dakota with Reverend David Lund officiating. A cremation will take place following the funeral service and a private family inurnment will take place in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Yankton at a later date. Visitation is from 5:00 to 8:00 on Sunday, April 27, 2014 at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton with a prayer service and video tribute at 7:00 PM. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the funeral on Monday at the church.

Pallbearers are Jim Vavra, John Harper, Jerred Hysell, Troy Kabella, Alan "Corky" Livingston, and Brian "Butch" Wieseler. Honorary pallbearers are Terry Fiedler, Jim Carlson, Ray Goeden, Paul Schaefer, Bob LaFave, Richard Ostrem, and Randy Hlavac.

Michael "Mike" McHenry was born June 22, 1959, in Yankton, South Dakota to Alvin and Arlene (Hlavac) McHenry. He grew up in Yankton and graduated from Yankton High school in 1977. He then attended VoTech. training in Springfield, South Dakota and received his plumbing license. He started McHenry Plumbing in Yankton which he continued for over 30 years. He most recently was working for Avera in Yankton.

He loved working outdoors and working with his hands. He enjoyed working on his Jim River property, fishing, boating, but most of all spending time with his family and friends and helping them with their projects. Mike loved playing horseshoes and entertaining everyone with fish fry's, BBQ's and cards. Mike loved life and cared for everyone he met. He was a role model, friend, mentor and everything he did was to bring people together. He always had a goal and there wasn't a job he wouldn't help with.

Survivors include his five children: David (Hilde Wyffels) McHenry of Tea, South Dakota; Carrie (Eric) Pohlen of Hospers, Iowa; Chasity McHenry of Yankton; Daniel (Megan) McHenry of Lake Park, Iowa; and Crystal (Homero Medina) McHenry of Yankton; eight grandchildren: Collin Parker; Haley, Tyler, and Lindsey Pohlen; Nikolas, Anthony, and Zachary McHenry, and Diego McHenry; mother, Arlene McHenry of Yankton; brother, Kevin (Karen) McHenry of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; and sister, Cheryl (Pat) Jansen of Greenwood, Indiana.

He was preceded in death by his father, Alvin McHenry and grandparents: Lloyd and Arlene McHenry, Donald and Adeline Mach, and Alfred Hlavac.
