Jimmie L. Mayer, age 58, of Yankton, South Dakota, died unexpectedly Thursday, December 24, 2015, at his home in Yankton.
Funeral services will be 10:30 AM, Tuesday, December 29, 2015, at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton with Reverend Dani Jo Ninke officiating. Burial will be in the Unity Lutheran Cemetery in rural Freeman, South Dakota. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral on Tuesday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers are Rick Johnson, Jim Johnson, Byron Hetzel, Russell Brandon, and Larry Porkorny.
Jimmie Mayer was born February 24, 1957, in Parkston, South Dakota, to Gerhardt and Altha (Semmler) Mayer. He grew up on a farm near Parkston and attended school in Parkston. He enlisted in the United States Army and served in Germany. He returned to Parkston after his service and later moved to Yankton and began working for Roy Johnson Roofing. He married Lynne List on October 6, 1957, and together had one daughter, Kimberly. In 1995, he moved to Rapid City, South Dakota, and continued working in the roofing industry until moving back to Yankton in 2004.
Jimmie enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing pool and snagging paddlefish.
Jimmie is survived by his daughter, Kimberly Mayer of Yankton, mother, Altha Mayer of Wakonda, South Dakota; three grandchildren: Haylee, Courtnee, and Desirae; and one sister, Betty Hladky of Yankton.
He was preceded in death by his father, Gerhardt; grandparents, and nephew, Michael Hladky.

Sorry for loss. He was good friend of mine. We had a lot of good times working with him.
I think of Jimmie when I think of my days at the Pool Hall which is often and with a smile. He was always nice, polite and respectful to me. To see him smile and laugh made me smile.
