Roger William Lyngstad, age 72, of Volin, South Dakota, died Sunday, October 29, 2017, at Avera Majestic Bluffs Hospice House in Yankton, South Dakota.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM on Friday, November 3, 2017 at Trondhjem Lutheran Church in Volin, South Dakota with Pastor Mark Ostrem officiating. Burial will be in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Yankton, South Dakota. Visitation is from 5:00 to 8:00 PM on Thursday, November 2, 2017, at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton with a prayer service at 7:00 PM.
Pallbearers are Matt Lyngstad, Bruce Boehrns, Otto Kaeppeli, Eric Mellem, Rodney Aune, and Dave Nelson.
Roger William Lyngstad was born March 31, 1945, in Yankton, South Dakota, to George and Florence (Nelson) Lyngstad. He grew up on the family farm near Volin, South Dakota and graduated from Volin High School in 1963. He joined the Army National Guard after high school and served until 1968. He married Dorothy Drury on September 16, 1967, in Bonesteel, South Dakota and continued living and working on the family farm his entire life. He also worked at Stockman Livestock in Yankton for 17 years and also worked custom hay bailing for area farmers for many years.
He was a member of Trondhjem Lutheran Church in Volin and loved being on the farm. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, raising Charolais Cattle, and John Deere Tractors. He was very smart businessman and took great pride in his farming and bailing. Roger loved his family most of all and loved being with his five girls.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Lyngstad of Volin, South Dakota; four daughters: Amy Lyngstad of Utica, South Dakota; Julie Lyngstad of Irene, South Dakota; Molly Haas of Yankton, South Dakota; and Tammy (Thad) Larson of Aurora, Colorado; six grandchildren: Ashley Wagner, Michaela (Kevin) Gustafson, Logan Haas, Sophie Haas, Emma Larson, and Caleb Larson; two great grandchildren: Lauren and Ethan; one great grandchild on the way; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Penny Lyngstad; brother, Wesley Lyngstad; sister, Kathleen Lyngstad; and father and mother-in-law, Joseph and Gladys Drury.
