Janet was born March 29, 1934 on the family farm in Marion, South Dakota. She lost her mother at age 6 and was raised by her dad and Aunt Alvina Knutson. Janet learned how to cook at an early age and by the time she was 9 years old, she was cooking full meals for the farm workers. Life on the family farm was hard, but Janet didn't complain. She graduated from Yankton High School in 1957. She was married to Walter Peter Lewno and from that union two children were born, Lynette and Alvina. Walter died in 1961 and Janet was left a widow to two young girls. She met the love of her life, Elwood, at First Assembly of God Church in 1962 and they were married May 10, 1963. They enjoyed raising four more children: Myrna, Wade, Shari and Lewlyn. Janet was a stay at home mom until it became necessary for her to go to work. She worked at the South Dakota Human Services Center, Sunshine Nursing Home and Sheraton Hotel. She was a faithful member of Yankton First Assembly of God and loved the Lord with all of her heart. Janet was incredible with a crochet hook and visitors to church were welcomed with one her crocheted bookmarks. She also created beautiful hand-crafted pieces with needlepoint canvas mesh.
Our hearts are heavy with grief, but filled with hope, for Mom is now rejoicing in Heaven with the angels. Until we see you on the other side...we love you.

Walton Beach, FL; 14 grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Elwood & Family; Sorry for your loss! It's been many years since we worked together at Yankton State Hospital.
Janet was always very kind and sweet. One of her pink cross bookmarks is still in my Bible and a daily reminder of her. She is surely rejoicing in the presence of God. May God's love and promise of eternal life bring peace to your family.
