William "Bill" C. Leapley, age 94 of Coleridge, Nebraska died on Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at the Park View Haven Nursing Home in Coleridge.

Funeral services will be on Saturday, April 2, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at the Pilgrim Congregational U.C.C. in Coleridge, NE with the Rev. Gary Kimm officiating. Burial will be at the Coleridge City Cemetery with military rites by the Coleridge American Legion Post #114. Visitation will be on Friday from 5-7:00 p.m. at the Wintz Funeral Home in Coleridge. Visitation will continue on Saturday at church one hour prior to services.

Pallbearers will be his sons and grandsons Larry Leapley, Jim Leapley, John Leapley, Billy Leapley, Sean Leapley, and Michel Leapley.

Honorary Pallbearers are his grandchildren; Jayne Leapley, Marc Kimoto, Heather Leapley, Allen Strand, Christyne Schultz, Justin Schultz, Sara Leapley, Gail Leapley, and Katie Jo Leapley.

William "Bill" Charles Leapley was born on December 18, 1921 to Roy & Selma (Marsh) Leapley on the family farm southwest of Coleridge. He attended Rural School District #34 for the first six years and completed his education in town, graduating from Coleridge High in 1939. He worked on the family farm and later attended Lincoln Aerodynamics Institute in Lincoln, NE. Bill moved to Anaheim, CA and worked for Douglas Aircraft for 1 ½ years. During WWII he enlisted in the Army Air Force in April 1943. He took his basic training at Buckley Field in CO. Bill went overseas in 1944 and was stationed in France and Holland. He became a member of the 9th Army Air Corp in the 387th Tiger Striped Bomber Squadron as a tail gunner in a B-26. He flew 41 missions over Germany and earned the Air Medal with a silver and two bronze oak leaf clusters for Meritorious Achievement in bombing missions. He achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant and was honorably discharged in 1945. Bill worked at Douglas Aircraft for 1 ½ years following his discharge. He then moved back to the farm in Coleridge in 1947.

Bill married Imelda (Millie) Sjuts of Humphrey on August 19, 1949 at Humphrey, NE. To this union 3 sons were born, Larry, Jim, and John. Bill enjoyed spending time with family, working on the farm and watching the Huskers play as well as his beloved St. Louis Cardinals. He loved to bowl, fish, play baseball & shuffleboard, as well as spending winters in Florida. Bill served 8 years on the Board of Education for Coleridge Community School, & served as an officer on the Coleridge Dehy throughout the time it existed. He was a member of Pilgrim Congregational Church & served in several offices on the church council.

Bill and Millie moved from the farm into Coleridge in 1986. He continued to work at the farm and ran the combine for harvest until 2010 and did much of the disking through 2012.

He is survived by his wife Millie of 66 ½ years; 3 sons Larry Leapley and friend Donna Preston of Yankton, SD, Jim and Betty Jo Leapley & John and Rhonda Leapley, all of Coleridge; Grandchildren Jayne Leapley and husband Marc Kimoto, Victoria, British Columbia; Heather Leapley and fiancÚ Allen Strand, Stacy, MN; Christyne and Justin Schultz, Hastings; Sara Leapley, Belgrade, MT; Billy Leapley, Sean Leapley, Michel Leapley, Gail Leapley, and Katie Jo Leapley, all of Coleridge; and 1 great grandson Logan Kimoto.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; his twin sisters Glenna who died in infancy & Glennis; and a daughter-in-law Becky Leapley.
