Janice Faye Kressig, age 76 of Hartington, Nebraska, died at her residence on Monday, May 12, 2014.

Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, May 16, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Hartington with the Rev. Jeffery Loseke officiating. Burial of her cremated remains will be at the St. Michael's cemetery in Hartington at a later date. Her visitation and casket viewing will be on Thursday from 5-8:00 p.m. with a Vigil service at 7:00 p.m. at the Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington. Visitation will continue on Friday at the church one hour prior to services.

Pallbearers will be Josh Wortmann, Travis Wortmann, Patrick Wortmann, Nick Smith, Ryan Eickhoff, and Eric Peterson. Honorary pallbearers will be Brandie Sprieck, Ashley Smith, Jacob Smith, Adam Smith, Erik Smith, and Maria Smith.

Janice Faye Kittle was born on February 10, 1938 in Wisner, Nebraska to Herbert August and Elsie Sophie (Ramm) Kittle. She was baptized in 1938 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Pilger, Nebraska and confirmed in 1952 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Winside, NE. She attended rural school in Wayne County and graduated from Winside High School in 1955. After high school, Janice worked as a telephone operator. She married Robert Michael Smith on May 27, 1956 in Norfolk, NE at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Janice and Robert lived in multiple locations while he was in the Airforce. Robert died on July 21, 1967 at the age of 35 years due to a medical illness. Janice then married Jim E. Kressig on May 24, 1976 in Norfolk, NE. She worked at Pop's Café, Carhart Lumber Company, and the Senior Center in Hartington.

Janice was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church. She and Jim enjoyed square dancing, and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Janice is survived by her husband, Jim Kressig of Hartington; seven children and their spouses Mark Smith of Allen, NE, Chuck Smith of Hartington, NE, Jim and Dawn Smith of Birmingham, AL, Dan Smith of Lakewood, CA, Darryl Smith of Hartington, Theresa (Smith) Sprieck and special friend Ryan Lubberstedt of Dixon, NE, Marla and Randy Wortmann of Hartington; 10 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; brother-in-law Bob Peters of Belton, MO; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Robert Smith; one granddaughter Megan Smith; a brother Ronald Kittle; three sisters Mrs. Werner (Vera) Mann, Mrs. Ervin (Margie) VanErt, and her twin Janet "Janelle" Peters.
