Richard Gerard Kalin, age 58 of Coleridge, Nebraska, died on Thursday, November 10, 2016 at his residence after a brief illness.

Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, November 14, 2016 at 10:30 am at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Hartington with Rev. David Liewer officiating. Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery in Coleridge. Visitation will be on Sunday from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm with a Vigil Service at 4:00 pm at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Visitation will begin one hour prior to services on Monday at the church. The Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington is assisting with arrangements. 

Pallbearers will be Dennis Anderson, Rob Pischel, Jason Berg, Pat Onderstall, Heath Jueden and Bill Melena.

Richard was born on June 26, 1958 at Yankton, SD to Raymond Joseph and Elnora Mae (Wiemers) Kalin. He grew up on a farm in the Coleridge area and graduated from Coleridge High School in 1976. He worked in construction for a few years in Norfolk, NE and then returned to work with his dad on the farm. Richard married Lori A. Davenport on September 6, 1986 at Yankton. Richard continued farming and raising hogs west of Coleridge until he retired in 1993. At that time he became a licensed insurance agent and continued selling insurance until his recent illness. In the fall of the year he loved to run the combine assisting his family.

Richard was a member of the St. Michael's Catholic Church in Coleridge. He enjoyed bowling, golfing, hunting, playing pool and cards and spending time with his family camping at Lewis and Clark Lake.

Richard is survived by his wife, Lori of Coleridge; a son, Mason Kalin of Yankton, SD; a daughter, Emily Kalin of Kansas City, MO; his mother, Elnora Mae Kalin of Coleridge; a brother, Robert and Connie Kalin of Hartington; 3 nephews, Bryan and Tiffany Kalin of Hartington; Travis Kalin of Hartington; Aaron and Sadie Kalin of Hartington; his mother-in-law, Dorothy Davenport of Yankton; a brother-in-law, Jim and Chris Davenport of Yankton and their 2 sons, Micah and Connor; a sister-in-law, Debbie and Stacey Kutil of Hartford, SD and their 2 daughters, Krista and Melissa.

He was preceded in death his father, Raymond, a sister, Ruth Ann Kalin, his God daughter, Renae Kalin and his father-in-law, Richard Davenport.
