Harold Dean Huetig, age 89 of Belden, Nebraska, died on Friday, July 25, 2014 at the Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton, SD.

Funeral Services will be on Monday, July 28, 2014 at 10:30 am at the Union Presbyterian Church in Belden, Nebraska with Rev. Charity Forbes and Elder Kathie Keifer officiating. Burial will be in the Belden Cemetery with military honors provided by the Belden American Legion Post 149 and the Legion Riders.  Visitation will be on Sunday from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm with a Prayer Service at 4:00 pm at the Wintz Funeral Home in Coleridge.  Visitation will begin one hour prior to services on Monday at the church. Honorary Pallbearers will be Wendy Anderson, Sheli Wilkinson, Andrea Jaquith, Patricia Kennedy and Nick Sueper.  Active Pallbearers will be Oliver Sueper, Gabe Sueper, Brandon Huetig, Phillip Jaquith, Brian Wilkinson, Eric Huetig and Troy Anderson.

Harold was born on December 19, 1924 near Laurel, Nebraska to George and Myrtle (Rice) Huetig. He moved to Belden with his family when he was 9 months old and has been a resident ever since. He was baptized January 12, 1925 and graduated from the Belden High School. Harold married Lula H. Fiscus on December 25, 1945 at Belden. He served in the U. S. Army from Nov. 10, 1945 to December 19, 1946 with duty in Italy, Vienna and Austria. They moved into their present home in 1947.  Harold worked with his dad and brother at Huetig Trucking which became Huetig Feed and Grain and then eventually he began raising hogs.

Harold was a member of the Union Presbyterian Church in Belden and was ordained an Elder in 1966. He was a member of the Belden American Legion Post 149 and was a former member of the Belden Volunteer Fire Department, the Belden Chamber of Commerce and the Belden City Council.  He assisted in organizing and building the Veterans Memorial on Highway 20 near Belden. Harold enjoyed woodworking, cooking, hunting, fishing, gardening, visiting with his children and grandchildren and spending time with his faithful companion, "Buddy".

Harold is survived by 3 children and their spouses, Roger and Becky Huetig of Ft. Dodge, Iowa; Paul and Mary Huetig of Omaha; Shirley and Chuck Sueper of North St. Paul, MN; a daughter-in-law, Jill Huetig of Yankton, SD; 9 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, 4 sisters-in-law, Phyllis Huetig of Belden; Maxine Fish of Coleridge; Wilma Hallgrimson of South El Monte, CA; Alta Mae and Glen Patent of Albany, OR; Kay Fiscus of Yankton; many nieces and nephews, a host of friends and his beloved dog, "Buddy".

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Lula on January 30, 2007 at the age of 85, a son, Warren Huetig in 2006 at the age of 56 and a brother, Walter Huetig.
