Vertus Leroy Huber was born May 22, 1927, on the family farm to Peter and Edna (Anderson) Huber in Yankton County, South Dakota. Vertus lived in Yankton County all his life attending Gunderson and Prairie #9 Schools and graduated from Yankton High School in 1945. He married Beverly Barington on December 10, 1950 in Mission Hill, South Dakota. They farmed north of Yankton until April 1969 when they moved into Yankton. Vertus then began working at Stockman's Livestock which he continued for 60 years. He enjoyed working at Stockman's because it kept him connected to farming.
Vertus loved the outdoors, camping, gardening, and taking care of his yard. He was a member of United Church Congregational in Yankton, the Yankton Elks Lodge as well as many coffee groups at Hy-Vee. He enjoyed traveling, taking bus trips, and taking drives in the country and out to the lake. Vertus was a hardworking man, who was always on the move. He would help anyone and could fix anything. Being an only child, family was the most important aspect of his life. He loved having family home for the holidays and spending time with them on the patio.
Survivors include his four children: Lavonne (Craig) LaFollette of Custer, South Dakota; Linda (Allen) Hamberger of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Marlon (Julie) Huber of Yankton; and Peter (Monica) Huber of Chandler, Arizona; five grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Diane Spence of Utica, South Dakota; and brother-in-law, Melvin (Carolyn) Barington of Mitchell, South Dakota.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Beverly on August 24, 2012; and brothers-in-law, Ken Spence and Marvin (Shirley) Barington.

My sympathy to all of Vertus and Bev's family. It was great privilege to get to know them, and I have many fond memories. May the love and peace of God comfort you.
Thinking about all of you when we saw Vertus had passed away. I remember many Tuesday sales at Stockmen's Livestock when I was there with mom behind 'the counter' when Vertus would stop by and joke with us. He was a very friendly person ~ always had time for everyone! Love the memories.
