Tommy R. Hanson, age 69 of Crofton, Nebraska, died peacefully at his home on Monday, November 28, 2016.
Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, December 1, 2016 at 2:00 pm at the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Crofton with Rev. Timothy Podraza officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services on Thursday at the church. Burial of his cremated remains will occur at a later date in the Meckling Cemetery in Meckling, SD. The Wintz Funeral Home in Crofton is assisting with the arrangements.

Tom was born on February 21, 1947 in Buffalo, NY to Elmer Lewis and Virginia (Fox) Hanson. He graduated from Riverside High School in Buffalo in 1965 and attended State Teachers College in Buffalo. In 1966 he enlisted in the Air Force for 2 years. After his honorable discharge, he joined the Hollywood Florida Police Department and held numerous positions while employed there including police officer, undercover agent, under water investigative officer and was then appointed detective. Later he worked for JCPenny's while living in Yankton, SD and Duluth, MN. He moved to Syracuse, NY and then Fredricksburg, VA where he was a Regional Sales Manager for General Products, LLC. In 1987 he moved to Tallahassee, FL where he lived for 20 years and retired there. Tom returned to Yankton in 2007 where he joined the Divorced, Widowed and Separated (DWS) and Beginning Experience (BE) support groups. He was a facilitator for both groups and made some very special friends during those years. Tom married the love of his life on September 6, 2013. They enjoyed watching football, searching for antiques, traveling, and spending time in Gulfport, MS. He had an extensive superman collection and enjoyed visiting history museums.
Tom is survived by his wife, Beverly Hanson of Crofton; his daughter, Melissa Hanson and her 2 children Casey and Jack Vivian of Huntsville, AL; a sister, Susan Hanson of Yankton, SD; 4 stepchildren and their spouses, Vicki and Chuck Kleinschmit of Coleridge, NE; Deb and Dave Kube of Crofton; Teri and Aaron Biermann of Wisner, NE; Lisa Fields and fiancé Randy Purdy of Elm Creek, NE; 25 step grandchildren and 12 step great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, Duane and Robert Hanson, a nephew, Bobby Hanson, a step son, Frank Potts, a step grandson, Shawn Potts and a step son-in-law, Mike Fields.

Tom was my cousin and I will miss him dearly ! My condolences go out to his nephew, David and niece Shirley (my second cousins) and their children. Love you.
