George F. Hamilton, age 71 of Hartington, Nebraska died on Thursday, November 13, 2014 at his residence after a brief battle with cancer.

Funeral Services will be on Monday, November 17, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hartington with the Rev. Amanda Jertson officiating. Burial will be at the Hartington City Cemetery.

Visitation will be on Sunday from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm with a Prayer Service at 5:00 pm at the Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington. Visitation will continue on Monday at the church one hour prior to services.

Pallbearers will be Joshua Poppe, Trevor Hamilton, Shane Hamilton, Bill Watts, Randy Tramp, and Eric Tanderup.

George Frederick Hamilton was born on February 21, 1943 to Joe and Wilma (Pretzer) Hamilton on a farm near Newcastle, Nebraska. George was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hartington on December 11, 1966. George attended school in Obert, Maskell, and Crofton, graduating from Center High School in 1962. On November 12, 1966 he married Janet Peters in Bloomfield, NE. They had two sons, Kevin and Mike. George worked for John Grindvold for five years. He then began working for Jim Neu at Neu Cheese Plant in Hartington and continued thru the new ownerships of the cheese company for a total of 34 years. George worked seasonally in the spring at CVA in Hartington for two years. He later drove truck for various farmers and businessmen.

George was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hartington. George loved to work outside and take care of his yard and the yards of many neighbors. He loved his grandkids and loved going to all their activities and all the times they would stop by. He also enjoyed visiting with people where ever he was.

George is survived by his wife Janet of Hartington; two sons and their spouses Kevin and JoLynn Hamilton of Goodyear, AZ, son Mike and Jo Anne Hamilton of Hartington; grandchildren Josh (Shelby) Poppe of Crofton, Trevor, Shane, Ashley, Olivia, and Lyndsey Hamilton of Hartington, Chelsea, Blake and Travis Hamilton of Goodyear, AZ; two sisters Darlene Harling of Crofton, NE, Maxine and husband Lowell Tanderup of Vermillion, SD; brother Larry and wife Betty Hamilton of Crofton; sisters-in-law Vernel Nelson of Norfolk, Eunice Murray, Crystal Peters, Alice Strom, and Sharon Peters of Bloomfield, Margaret Seagren of Wausa, Judy and husband Roger Boyer of Hildreth, NE; brothers-in-law and spouse Daryle and Karen Peters of Bloomfield

He was preceded in death by his parents Joe and Wilma Hamilton; parents in-law Louie and Ella Peters.

Janet, the kids & I were so sad to hear of George's illness, and shocked to hear of his passing.

They reminisced about all the helpful things he did when we would visit mom & Les, making sure the bikes were always ready to ride. George was a devoted friend to Les, assisting in all things, big & small. He always kept Les up to date on the town news, he wil be missed. Janet, we are thinking of you, Mike, JoAnn, Kevin and their families.
