Thomas J. Gubbels, age 81 of Randolph, Nebraska died on Saturday, November 17, 2018 at the Norfolk Veterans Home in Norfolk, Nebraska. Tom will be reunited with his wife in heaven after 48 years of being apart.

Mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Jane Frances de Chantal Catholic Church in Randolph, Nebraska with the Rev. Marc Lim officiating. Burial will be at St. Frances cemetery in Randolph with military honors by the Alvin Kessler VFW Post 5545. Visitation will be on Tuesday, at church in Randolph, from 5-8:00 p.m. with a Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Wednesday one hour prior to services. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington, NE.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Chance Buss, Jacob Gubbels, Lucus Gubbels, Benjamin Gubbels, Peter Gubbels, Michael Haselhorst, and Adam Haselhorst.

Honorary pallbearers will be Tom's grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Thomas Jacob Gubbels was born on March 24, 1937 in Randolph, Nebraska to Matthias Hubert and Sophia C. (Scharf) Gubbels. He grew up in Randolph and graduated from St. Frances High School in 1955. He returned to farm with his father until he served in the U.S. Army in 1958. Tom married Patricia Louise Kurtzhals on December 27, 1960 in Coleridge, NE. Tom farmed in the Coleridge area and moved to the Randolph area in 1970. Tom raised grain and livestock, milked cows and also drove a truck. After retiring he continued to be active with animals and pets. Tom also enjoyed making rosaries. He made over 1,000 of them during his lifetime.

Tom was a member of St. Jane Frances de Chantal Catholic Church and was baptized and confirmed there. He was active in his church thru the years where he read and was an EMHC at mass. Tom's family was the center of his life and he really enjoyed his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Thomas is survived by his three children and spouses, Mark & Joann Gubbels of Osmond, Madonna & John Buss of Pierce, Anna Marie & Dave Haselhorst of Randolph; 14 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; two brothers Melvin Gubbels of Lena, WI, Brother Mark Gubbels FSC of Memphis, TN; sister-in-law Dorothy Gubbels of Columbus; many nieces and nephews; special friend Dorothy of Norfolk, NE.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, wife Patricia on November 10, 1970 at the age of 30 years; two brothers Michael Gubbels, Isadore (Angela) Gubbels; two sisters Lexi Otterpohl, Sr. Magdalina Gubbels OSB; nephew Rusty Gubbels; sister-in-law Althea Gubbels.
