Ketz was born December 29, 1928, in Menominee, Nebraska, to Boniface and Mary (Havermann) Goeden. She lived on a farm in Menominee for a few years until moving just south of Pleasant Valley, Nebraska, where she attended country school. After graduating from Beauty School in Sioux City, Iowa, she married Marvin D. Griess on June 14, 1948 in Hartington, Nebraska. Shortly after their marriage, they moved to Hartington, where Ketz started Kathleen's Beauty Shop. She spent many years working and raising her nine children. She retired from the beauty shop in 1988.
Ketz was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, where she kept a holy hour for many years. She was also a member of the Catholic Daughters, Christian Mothers, VFW Auxiliary and American Legion Auxiliary. She was an avid sports fan who learned to love the game of baseball by being the catcher for her brothers. Ketz's love of sports allowed her to accomplish a hole in one at age 65 and a record high bowling series of 646. Ketz's family was the most important thing in her life and she loved having all of them together. She was instrumental in starting the Annual Family golf tournament and Picnic which has continued for the past 30 years. Ketz learned at a young age that the best way to show your love for others is by feeding them, and she did it well. She truly lived a Christian life. She was a wonderful role model to her family on how to treat one another and how to live your life with faith. She was a kind and generous woman who cared for everyone.
