Alice Margaret Graffis, age 95 of Laurel, Nebraska, died on Friday, January 4, 2019 at the Hillcrest Care Center in Laurel.
Funeral Services will be on Friday, January 11, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Lutheran Church in Laurel with the Rev. Matthew Quanbeck officiating. Burial will be at the New Holy Trinity Cemetery in Brainard, Nebraska at 3:00 p.m. Visitation will be on Thursday, at United Lutheran Church in Laurel from 5-7:00 p.m. and will continue one hour prior to services on Friday. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home of Laurel.
Pallbearers will be Dale Trampe, Jason Graffis, Jordan Graffis, Mike Krenk, Marion Kobza, Andrew Kobza, and Todd Graffis. Honorary pallbearers will be Traci Trampe, Courtney Grindrod, Kelsey Graffis, Teresa Graffis, Jordan Graffis, and Cayla Graffis.
Alice was born December 15, 1923 to Adolph V. and Rose Agnes (Pauel) Kobza at the family farm, David City, NE. Alice attended Holy Trinity Catholic School, Brainard, NE. On August 7, 1947 Alice was united in marriage to Adolph A. Scholz and to that union a son, Adrian was born. On March 12, 1957 Alice was united in marriage to Raymond F. Graffis in the Danish Gethsemane Lutheran Church at Laurel, NE and to this union a daughter Arlyce Rae was born.
Alice and Raymond lived on their farm north of Laurel until retiring into Laurel in April of 1997. On the farm Alice enjoyed taking care of her family, her flower garden, gardening, and taking care of the farm cats. Alice also enjoyed embroidery, singing, and dancing to Czech music. At Hillcrest Alice enjoyed many of the activities they offered, especially if it involved music. Family members were blessed with being able to share Alice's 95th birthday with her. Alice was a member of the United Lutheran Church.
Alice is survived by her son Adrian Scholz of Hartington, NE, her daughter Arlyce Graffis of Laurel, NE and their friend Eugene Jones of Wayne, NE; three stepsons and a daughter-in-law Emory and Linda (Thompson) Graffis of Sioux City, IA, Kenneth Graffis of Summerville, SC, and Alan Graffis and special friend Donna Dyer of Paris, IL; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; two brothers and a sister-in law, Marion and Betty Kobza of Dwight, NE, Andrew E. Kobza of David City, NE, two sisters and brother-in-law, Leona Divis of Lincoln, NE, Sylvia and Leroy Ratkovec of Valparaiso, NE, nieces and nephews.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents, an infant brother Emerich Kobza, husband Raymond Graffis, grandson Jared Graffis, brother-in-law Art Divis, and sister-in-law and husband Eleanor (Graffis) Carlson and Harold Carlson.
