Arlene Goeden was born February 2, 1925, in Flasher, North Dakota, to John and Ricka (Anderson) Martin. Her family moved to Hartington, Nebraska when she was 8 years old. She attended Hartington Public School and graduated from Hartington High School. She married Robert "Bud" Goeden on April 18, 1944, in Hartington. Arlene raised her family in Hartington and later worked for a few years at the Cedar County Courthouse. They moved to Yankton, South Dakota in 1969 and Arlene began working for Yankton College. A few years later, she began working in the Planning and Developing Office for the City of Yankton, which she continued for 17 years. In 2008, Arlene's health declined and she entered the Yankton Care Center.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Yankton and enjoyed camping, cooking, but she especially enjoyed spoiling her grandchildren. Arlene was a very generous woman who never said no to anyone.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bud on April 6, 1987; son, Bob Goeden; daughter, Becky Bovero; and two sisters: Esther Becker and Maxine De Neui.
