Sam Geigle, age 54, of Yankton, South Dakota, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at his residence.

Burial will be in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Yankton. Visitation is from 2:00 to 5:00 PM, on Sunday, May 15, at St. Benedict Catholic Church with a vigil service at 4:00 PM. Pallbearers are Nicky Geigle, Doug Budig, Dave Jedlicka, Tim Dickes, Scott Hansen, Greg DeJean, Grant Shearer, and Terry Jacobs.

Sam was born on June 18, 1961 in Sioux City, Iowa to Harold and Mary (Naescher) Geigle. His parents both died when he was a young boy and was raised by his uncle, Ray Naescher, in Wall, SD. Sam graduated from Wall High School in 1980 and then attended the University of South Dakota in Springfield, SD where he obtained an electrical degree. He moved to Vermillion, SD and graduated with a criminal justice degree from the University of South Dakota and started working for the Federal Prison Camp in Yankton when it opened. On August 1, 1992, Sam married Barbara Childress in Yankton. After their marriage, they lived in Yankton and Sam continued working for the Federal Prison until his retirement in 2011. In the mid 1990's, he received his Master's Degree in pastoral ministry from Mount Marty College in Yankton. After his retirement, Sam worked for St. Benedict Catholic Church as a pastoral assistant. He led numerous prayer groups, adult formation classes and ministered to many people in nursing homes. His faith was central to his life and he was very active in the church and Cursillo group. Sam also worked part time at Buhl's Cleaners for a few years and spent the last year working at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home. Sam was a jack of all trades and could fix about anything. He loved hunting, cars, motorcycles and working on engines. He especially treasured the camping trips with his family and was so proud of his girls. Sam was always concerned about the needs of others and willing to help in any way he could.

Sam is survived by his wife, Barb Geigle of Yankton; two daughters, Brianna and Kellie Geigle of Yankton; two brothers, Tom Geigle of Interior, SD and Nick (Charon) Geigle of Wall, SD; and many nieces and nephews.

Sam was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Cathie Geigle.

I am deeply saddened by the news of Sam's death. He was always such a great model of what it means to be a Man of Faith, and while any words at this time pale in comparison to Sam's love of God and God's love for Sam, may you find peace in the promise of resurrection. Know of my continued prayers.
