Florence M. Eide, age 83, of Yankton, died unexpectedly at her home on Thursday, September 21, 2017.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM on Monday, September 25, 2017, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Yankton, South Dakota, with Reverend Jeff Otterman officiating. Burial will be in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Yankton. Visitation is from 2:00 to 5:00 PM on Sunday, September 24, 2017, at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton with a prayer service at 4:00 PM.
Pallbearers are: Erica Rice, Jason Donner, Hunter Kadlecik, Justin Walsh, Jimmy Walsh, Adam Walsh, Chelsea Larson, and Nic Kellen.
Florence M. Eide was born April 23, 1934, on a farm in rural Utica, South Dakota, to Walter and Lenora (Lipkie) Mueller. She grew up on the farm and graduated from Scotland High School in 1952. She graduated from the Sacred Heart School of Nursing in 1955 and began working at Sacred Heart Hospital, as an RN, where she was the night supervisor for most of her 50 year career. She married Kermit Eide on June 28, 1958, in rural Menno, South Dakota. They made their home in Yankton, where they raised five children. Kermit died on April 25, 2006. For the past 7 years, Florence resided at Memory Lane Apartments, where she enjoyed the fellowship of community and friendship.
Florence treasured the time spent with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Florence's life was her faith, her family, and her work.
Survivors include her five children: Luann (Jim) Schultz of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Marsha (Bob) Kadlecik of Sioux Falls; Cheryl (David) Walsh of Yankton; Lee Eide of Sioux Falls; and Lynn (Tedd) Kellen of Yankton; eight grandchildren; five great grandchildren; two sisters: Dorothy Sayler of Yankton and Phyllis (James) Perron of Clearwater, Florida; brother, Jerry (Mary Lou) Mueller of Yankton and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Kermit.

Florence was a tender hearted woman and we had a great relationship at work- night shifts. I am a better person for having her as a friend.
We were so very sorry to learn that Florence has passed away. Many fond memories of our kids playing and growing up together. Our sincere sympathy goes out to all of you.

Florence touched so many nurse's lives in her 50 years of nursing! She was certainly one of a kind! That soft spoken voice will surely be missed. Prayers to her family.

Mrs. Eide was a mentor to me..I will never forget her..so kind and truely had the patients and also the staff nurses who cared for them as prioritys..she supported us all..such dedication and sincere committment is difficult to ever see again..she was one of a kind and I totally respected everything about her..I always knew that when she was the nurse supervisor that things would be in control..my Aunt Sister Virgil always held Mrs. Eide in high esteem..she earned it !!..my sympathy to the Eide family.
