Virginia Donahoe, age 91, of Yankton, South Dakota, died Thursday, March 26, 2015, at Avera Sister James Care Center in Yankton.
A memorial service will be 10:30 AM on April 6, 2015 at Avera Sister James Care Center in Yankton, South Dakota with Reverend Ken Lulf officiating. Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Yankton.
Virginia Donahoe was born February 8, 1924 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota to Dr. William and Florence (Flemming) Donahoe. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph's Cathedral in Sioux Falls. She graduated from the University of Iowa and began working as a home economist for Northern States Power in 1945. She was later transferred to Minneapolis in 1953, where she worked until her retirement in 1983. Virginia used her knowledge as a diabetic and published her book Diabetic Cooking Made Easy in 1973.
Virginia had many close friends while living in Minnesota for over 50 years and dated Wells Leslie for many of those years. They were planning to get married, when Wells became ill and later died. Virginia moved to Yankton in December of 2011 to be closer to her nieces and nephew. She made her home at Majestic Bluffs in Yankton where she attended daily Mass and always loved being outside.
Survivors include her sister, Betty Davis of Sioux Falls, SD; four nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and longtime companion, Wells Leslie.
