Maurita A. (Weinandt) Diehl, age 79, died September 18, 2015 at her home in Tarzana, CA from stomach cancer.

A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Fordyce, Nebraska with the Rev. James Keiter officiating. Burial of her cremated remains will be following mass at St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Fordyce. Family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. until service time. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington, NE.

She was born in Fordyce, NE, November 19, 1935 to Anton and Regina (Boeckman) Weinandt. Maurita enjoyed a full life both private and professional. After high school she joined St. Joseph's Convent in Milwaukee, WI where she enjoyed the wonderful community life for 13 years. She received her B.S.N from Alverno College, Milwaukee, WI and M.S.N. from Catholic University in Washington, D.C. She taught Nursing at Alverno College, Cal State University, and Mt. Marty College in Yankton, SD. Maurita served as Director of Nursing Services at Canoga Park Hospital and Director of Continued Nursing Education at Learning Tree University in Chatsworth.

She and husband John loved to travel and visited every continent except Antarctica, Australia being their favorite.

Maurita is survived by the joys of her life, son Bryan D, grandson Bryan A., three stepsons: David (Christy), San Diego; John Jr. (Dale), Costa Mesa; Paul (April), Northridge; 6 step-grandchildren and many, many friends. She is also survived by half-sister Opal Smith (Sioux City), sister DelRae Dickes and brother Gerard, both residing in Yankton, SD.

She was preceded in death by her Mom, Dad, Step-mother, husband Dr. John Diehl, brother De of Canoga Park and sister Vi, Baton Rouge, LA.

Memorial services were previously held at Gates, Kingsley & Gates, Canoga Park, CA.
