Elizabeth M. (Cowman) Dedrick, age 91, of Yankton, South Dakota died Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at Avera Sister James Care Center in Yankton.
Funeral services are 11:00 AM, on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton with Reverend Nicole Anderson officiating. Burial will be in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Yankton at a later date. Visitation is one hour prior to the funeral on Tuesday.
Betty was born December 18, 1925 in Yankton, South Dakota to Homer and Hendrina (Roozen) Cowman. She grew up in Yankton where she attended elementary and high school. After graduating from Yankton High School, she moved and worked briefly in Chicago, Illinois. Betty then moved to Carroll, Iowa. She married Freeling "Fritz" Dedrick and raised her family in Carroll. They later moved to Glenwood, Minnesota where they owned and operated a supper club and fishing resort on Lake Reno, Minnesota. After the sale of the business, Fritz and Betty moved back to Yankton and Betty worked in food service for the Yankton Senior Citizens Center. Fritz died in 1986 and Betty later married Jack Coats. She was a member of the Eastern Star and Gayville-Volin United Methodist Church. She loved oil painting and ballroom dancing.
Betty is survived by her brother, Dale (Finetta) Cowman of Sioux Falls, SD; and daughter-in-law, Esther Weis and her family of North Sioux City, SD.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Fritz Dedrick and Jack Coats; and sons, John and Dale Dedrick.
