Micheal Richard Collins, age 66 of Coleridge, Nebraska, died after a brief illness on Friday, March 18, 2016 surrounded by his family at his residence in Coleridge.

Memorial Services will be on Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at 10:30 am at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Coleridge with Rev. Debra Valentine officiating. Burial of his cremated remains will be in the Lawn Ridge Cemetery in Coleridge. The Wintz Funeral Home in Coleridge is in charge of arrangements.

Micheal was born on April 29, 1949 at Laurel, Nebraska to Richard Lee and Myrna Joy (Anderson) Collins. He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Coleridge. Micheal grew up in Coleridge and attended Coleridge Public Schools. He moved to Laurel in 1965 and graduated from Laurel High School in 1967 and was an alternate Regents Scholarship recipient. Micheal received his Bachelor of Science Degree from Wayne State College in 1972. He worked at several jobs including being a co-owner of the Wagon Wheel Steak House in Laurel, owned the Corral Bar & Grill and Epicurean in Coleridge and most recently worked at the Embers Assisted Living in Coleridge of which he was instrumental in getting established.

Mike was a former member of the United Lutheran Church in Laurel and is a current member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Coleridge. He also is a member and former board member of the Coleridge Community Club and served as Village Mayor for several years. Mike was an avid reader and enjoyed playing cards, fishing, hunting and visiting with friends and family. He also enjoyed playing games on his computer.

Mike is survived by his mother, Myrna Collins of Coleridge; 2 sisters and their husbands, Patricia and Tim Pehrson of York, NE; Melia and Dennis Tullberg of Wayne, NE; 4 nephews; Zachary Pehrson, Nathan and Chelsi Pehrson, Jared and Laurie Pehrson, Spencer Tullberg, 3 nieces; Erin and Adam Gartner, Alissa Thomsen, Shaylyn and Brad Peterson, 12 great nieces and nephews, 2 aunts, Claire Swaygnym and Judy Collins and a loving community of many friends and numerous relatives.

He was preceded in death by his father, Richard, a brother, Jimmy Collins, grandparents Ed and Evelyn Collins, Elmer and Matilda Anderson, uncles Gene and Keith Collins, Floyd and Don Anderson, and aunts, Veva Collins and Dorothy Anderson.

My sympathy to his family. I have known Mike for almost 50 years; we met as freshman at Wayne State College. Mike was an intelligent and a "gentle" man. Mike had many friends and will be missed by all.
