Karen Mae Cihak, age 72, of Yankton, South Dakota, died Saturday, June 27, 2015 at Avera Sister James Care Center in Yankton.

Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 AM, on Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Yankton with Father Ken Lulf officiating. Burial will be in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Yankton. Visitation is from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, on Tuesday, June 30 at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton with a vigil service at 7:00 PM. Visitation continues one hour prior to the funeral at church.

Pallbearers are Roy Thomas Kammer, Matthew Kammer, Kory Braunesreither, Joshua Kammer, Ben Kaiser, Shane Simonsen, Vince Hodge and Stan Wrobleski. Honorary pallbearers are all of her nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Karen was born May 6, 1943 in Wagner, South Dakota to Thomas and Olga (Nedved) Cihak. She grew up on a farm southeast of Dante, South Dakota and attended Lonetree No. 57 Country School. Karen lived in Yankton all of her adult life working at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital, Red Owl Grocery Store, M-tron Industries, Vishay Dale Electronics, HyVee, Cimpl's, and finally Casey's General Store. She was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church and the Yankton VFW Auxiliary. Karen enjoyed traveling, gardening, flowers, dogs and word search puzzles. She also enjoyed going to the casino and visiting with her friends. Karen was the "mother hen" of the family and treasured the time spent with her sisters, nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

Karen is survived by her three sisters: Kathy Braunesreither of Yankton; Kay (Dennis) Kammer of Bloomfield, NE and Kari (Don) Kaiser of Yankton; eight nieces and nephews; many great nieces and nephews; and many close friends.

Karen was preceded in death by her parents and brother-in-law, Marvin Braunesreither.

Kathy, Kay and Kari - I am so sorry for your loss - you are in my thoughts and prayers. I wish I could be there but I guess it wasn't to be. Just know I am thinking of you and all the family. Karen was a great friend for a lot of years. I will miss her. We had a nice visit on Friday before I left for California.
