Betty Jean Bowder, age 88, of Laurel, Nebraska and formerly of Wynot, Nebraska died on Monday, February 29, 2016 at the Hillcrest Care Center in Laurel.
Funeral Services will be on Thursday, March 3, 2016 at 10:30 am at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Wayne, Nebraska with Rev. Jeanne Madsen officiating. Burial will be in the Wynot City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Wednesday at the Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington. Visitation will begin at 9:30 am on Thursday at the church.
Pallbearers will be Adam Bowder, Aaron Bowder, Anthony Bowder, Robert Bowder, Ryan Bowder and Brian Buresh.
Betty was born on January 14, 1928 in Santee, Nebraska to Frederick Herman and Elsie Belle (Dooley) Ebsen. She grew up in Crofton and graduated from Crofton High School in 1946. Betty married Gerald Dean Bowder on August 31, 1947 in Crofton. They made their home in Wynot where Betty was a postal clerk for 20 years. In 2007 they moved to Laurel and in October of 2015 she moved to the Hillcrest Care Center in Laurel. She was a founding member of the Wynot American Legion Auxiliary Post 31 and was a member for 57 years. She was a former member of the Bethany Lutheran Church in Wynot and Faith Lutheran Church in Maskell, Nebraska. Currently she was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Wayne.
Betty was involved in a lot of volunteer work in Wynot and followed the Wynot Expos baseball team. After moving to Laurel she and Dean attended many games of the Wayne State Athletic teams. She was an avid Nebraska Cornhusker fan and loved to read. Most of all she loved to spent time with her family.
Betty is survived by her 3 sons, Rod and Terrie Bowder of Norfolk, Nebraska; David Bowder of Laurel; Tim and Dawn Bowder of Jackson, Nebraska; 8 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, 2 sisters, Judy Ebsen of Omaha and Barbara Ebsen of Norfolk.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Dean, on April 24, 2012 at the age of 87, 7 brothers, Donald, Marvin, Alvin, Vernon, Lyle, Ervin and Ersey Ebsen, 2 sisters, Lenora Woods and Lois Bergmann.
