Don was born July 20, 1934 in Crofton, Nebraska to Wayne and Etta (Downie) Bingham. He was a twin to his brother, Ronald, who passed away at birth. Don was baptized April 13, 1935 at Hurst Stafford Methodist Church in rural Crofton. He grew up on a farm east of Bloomfield, Nebraska and graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1952. After graduation, Don moved to Washington D.C. for a year, where he worked as a night clerk at a federal building. He then moved back to Bloomfield where he started his farming career. Don was confirmed in the Lutheran faith on March 25, 1956 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Osmond, Nebraska. On June 3, 1956, Don married Elnor Gansebom in Osmond. They were blessed with three daughters, Carolyn, Barbara and Diane and were active members of First Trinity Lutheran Church in Bloomfield. Together they farmed for 54 years until Elnor passed away on August 22, 2008. Don then moved to Yankton and became a member of St. John's Lutheran Church. He was a forward thinking man who always looked out for the needs of his family, friends and farming operation. After his semi-retirement, he enjoyed driving down to the farm in Bloomfield and visiting with friends. He was a man of faith and found pleasure in the simple things in life.

Don is survived by his three daughters: Carolyn Palu of Gayville, SD, Barbara (Jim) Goede of Sioux City, IA and Diane Guthmiller of Yankton; nine grandsons: Michael, Johnathan and Andrew Palu, Nicholas (Chrissy), Jared (Jessica) and Aaron Goede, Shaun, Derek and Ryan Guthmiller; two great grandsons: Jacob and Zachary Goede; and a sister, Sharon (Garry) Young of Bloomfield, NE.
