Joseph A. Becker, age 90 of Norfolk, Nebraska and formerly of Wynot, NE died on Sunday, October 18, 2015 at the Norfolk Veterans Home in Norfolk, NE.

Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, October 23, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family (Sacred Heart) Catholic Church in Wynot with the Rev. Eric Olsen officiating. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Wynot. Visitation will be on Thursday, at church, from 5-8:00 p.m. with a Vigil service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue Friday morning one hour prior to services. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington.

Palllbearers will be grandsons, John Dickes, Jeremy Dickes, Sam Schrant, Mason Buschelman, Grayson Becker, and Andrew Pfeifer.

Honorary pallbearers will be granddaughters Stacy Pfeifer, Heather Wetenkamp, Rachel Ferguson, Holly Thoene, Ellie Dickes, Sandra Dickes, Amber Kneifl, Amanda Wilson, Elizabeth Typhna, and Bethany Becker.

Joseph Alphonse Becker was born on July 31, 1925 in Hartington, Nebraska to Peter J. and Margaret (Wortmann) Becker. He grew up in the Bow Valley, Nebraska area. Joseph was a member of the U.S. Army serving during WWII from 2/20/1946 till 4/23/1947 in the Pacific. Joe married Romaine Lange on August 20, 1951 in Bow Valley, NE. Joe and Romaine farmed in the Bow Valley area from 1951 to 1968. They later owned and operated the Wynot Cash Store from 1971-1982. Joe worked for Euning Sand and Gravel until 1975 and also did carpentry work until he retired in 1986. Joe and Romaine moved into Wynot in 1976 and remained there until moving to the Norfolk Veterans Home in Norfolk in January of 2011.

Joe was a member of Holy Family Church, Bow Valley Park Association, Hartington VFW Post #5283, Wynot American Legion Post #31, Yankton Moose Lodge and Legion of the Moose, Catholic Order of Foresters. He had received the Legion of Honor in the Catholic Order of Foresters and received the American Legion State Citizenship Award in 1991. Joe was a former Wynot School Board member and on the Wynot Volunteer Fire Department for 19 years.

Joe is survived by his five children and spouses, Michael Becker of Mesa, Arizona, Mona and Mark Buschelman of Fordyce, Toni and Kurt Schrant of Norfolk, Steph and Jeff Dickes of Bow Valley, and Joseph Becker of Aurora, CO; 17 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; one sister Mary Stella Kuehler of Hartington.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, wife Romaine on 2/28/2012 at the age of 83 years; grandson Aaron Dickes; and a sister Theresa Moser.
